Gym membership termination issue- impact on credit?
I was a member of Gold’s gym and moved out of state out of the range of their 50 mile clause where I could cancel. I sent them a copy of a utility bill with my new address with delivery confirmation but kept getting bills. I called and they claimed to never have gotten the proof. I cannot find the receipt but am still looking. I am not going to pay them for the six months since I moved since I already proved to them I moved and they have been harassing me at my new address anyway.
How will this impact my credit (in numbers)? How do i get them to stop harassing me?
You need to find the receipt because with it, you can protect yourself and your credit. Tell them to cease all contact immediately or you will seek legal remedy. If it shows up on your credit report (and it will be minor if it does), you can dispute it with the credit reporting agency. But first, you need to formally dispute all of the charges since the time when you informed them that you moved and we’re canceling your agreement. Send them a letter, certified, return receipt requested stating that you are disputing the charges and why. Keep a copy for yourself and keep the receipt. Once the charges are in dispute, they are not allowed to report them to the credit agencies until the dispute has been resolved.
