WHERES THE BEST PLACE TO FIND SILVER COINS?
I got a boat load of the old whittney coin albums from my dad and want to fill them for the kids. My question is where are some good places to find these coins (pre 1964). I’ve tried a couple banks but seem to be striking out. Is there a particular location a bank should be in? It seems that all the rolls I get have already been searched. I have trouble even finding anything before 1970. If any of you have some good locations to buy change I would appreciate some ideas, I can’t afford to go to coin shops and pay the inflated prices (some even over book prices). Soo I’m looking to do it the old fashion way with a modern twist. I don’t mind searching a lot of coins ( I just went through $400 worth of nickels) I just need a better return. I only found One buffalo and you can’t even read the date, that’s not a lot considering I just looked at the back of 8000 nickles. I was thinking laundry-mats but All they have is quarters so that might not last long
Your chances of finding silver coins is not good, even though they do show up in rolls once in a while. I also beg to differ on coin shops. Most are on the up and up and yes sometimes a coin if it gets hot can go up beyond a coin value guide especially if the guide comes out once a year. In the world of coin collecting one usually gets what they pay for. You can during the summer go to flea markets and pick up coins cheap. they are usually cleaned and sometimes damaged but they are cheap. Many people search rolls so one never knows how many went through the one you just got from the bank. If you get a chance get a Coin World Magazine for there is even a “found in rolls Column”. that comes out once a month. The magazine is a weekly. One other thing old albums are known to cause damage to coins.
