How was King Tut Important For His time?

King Tutankhamen was the heir (son?) of king Akhenaten, a revolutionary pharaoh who introduced monotheism to Egypt. In the early times, Egyptians worshipped a number of gods, which required a great number of temples to be built. This in turn, fed a large class of priests who were members of various sects, each with its own god. In the 18th dynasty, King Akhenaten subordinated all faith to a single diety, the Sun god Ra, with the king himself being the chief priest. The temples to the other gods were defaced and abandoned. This put Egypt’s religious establishment on its head, because the priestly class lost so much power and prestige overnight.
King Tut was crowned when he was 9, and died when he was 19, so he probably did not have much influence on state affairs due to his young age. Most government decisions were made by his chief minister Ay, treasurer Maya, and general Horemheb. Like the previous ruler, Tut originally worshiped only one god, but saw that it led to conflict and decided to abolish monotheism. The various cults were allowed to worship their gods and temples were rebuilt. This seems to have been the king’s main achievement, which was a great relief to his people.
In modern times, he is mainly known because his crypt KV62, discovered in 1922, is the only one untouched by graverobbers. Much of Egyptian history was learned from the study of the artifacts in his tomb.
