I have 6 bottles of London Gin. Bottled by Waterloo Bridge distillery London. Piccadilly Club Brand Estab. ?
1814. Can anyone let me know if their is any value to the bottles and their contents, all are still sealed. One still has a paper wrap around it with the logo on it. They are square tapered bottles with scale like pattern on them.
The date of these bottles is important, 1814 is one year befor the Battle of Waterloo and in 1815 a pint bottle of Gin in London cost about two English pennies and a pound of tobacco cost four English pennies.
One other important point, 1814 was possibly London’s last great frost fair, held on a frozen solid River Thames usually between London Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge. These Frost Fayers were notorious for the riotous drinking which took place. The London of 1814 was descrbed as a ‘beer flood’ – heaven knows what that means exactly.
Your bottles of gin could be worth quite a lot, not for their content but their historic age.

A bit of early 1800s booze history. . .being three sheets to the wind seems to have been quite normal back then and any talk of banning happy hour would probably have been met with mass rioting and the firing of muskets in the streets and worse. . .

All this stuff is worth reading in part because it will put your bottles into their historic context.
On no account part with the bottles which you own, they could be worth quite a lot of money, but not if they are opened. Keep them as they are, preferably somewhere dark, such as inside a cupboard or chest.

Good luck – I have seen on one site someone getting I think £250 for a Gin Label of c1800-somthing, so God along knows what your stuff is worth could be thousands.
Best bet is you try a London Auction House, Christies, etc., they will at least be able to give you a valuation.
One thing I can promise you is that as we run up towards 2015, the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, anything remotely associated with that period is gonna be collectable, even a tatty note on some paper written by a common soldier – Deer ma and pop – Well, the Frenchies are soaking wet and have no hot food. Gin is 2d a pint and backey 4d a pound. The wagons are miles behind and we’re stuck here waiting. Everyone is in good spirits and I mean gin of course.
