WWII USS Nevada?
My grandfather was on the USS Nevada in Pear Harbor. I recently went to Pearl Harbor and did the tour and was very dissapointed. It was basically a USS Arizona Memorial. It was aweful what happened, but what about the other soldiers that were there? My grandfather lost his leg there. I have his discharge papers, but am unable to locate who has his Medals. Is there any way to find out exactly what he did on the ship and what medals he had recieved? He was an amazing person and I want to put together something to honor him.
I know it didn’t sink and that it was basically beached and had to be repaired. There is a marker at Pearl Harbor, but only a small mention during the film, etc. and nothing in the gift shop. Either way, my grandfather did lose his leg while on the ship.
I know alot about the Nevada and its history, but have been unable to find any info on my grandfather.
Nevada was not sunk at Pearl, just damaged. She was repaired and served throughout the war. That’s probably why there’s not as much as for Arizona. There certainly would have been some sort of marker/monuments though. There are ways to obtain certain military records. You might start with a Google search about Navy personnel records, and see if there is a place where to write or call. Good luck!
