Want to hang a 50 pound mirror flat against drywall of one-half inch thickness?
My 50 pound mirror only has 2 keyholes in the back. I am told that if I use a large metal (zinc) wall anchor with a type 8 screw for each keyhole, my one-half inch drywall will hold up theis 50 pound mirror without any problem.
Do yo agree ? I have never done this thing before.
50 pounds is peanuts for drywall to hold up. The force is straight down, not outward. You were told correctly about the wall anchor and screws. If you want it there forever, use adhesive in addition to the anchors.
My bathroom mirror is the same as what you are describing and has been up for 15 years. Held by 2 anchors in the drywall with little plastic L brackets at the bottom and two at the top. No adhesive. The top brackets only hold it against the wall. The two at the bottom hold up the whole thing. It weighs about 60 pounds.
